8 Cozy Fireplaces Using Wood Stoves
Creating A Cottage Feel With Wood Burning Stoves

When winter rolls around it’s time to pull out the coats, lip balm, and hand warmers. Snow and ice start to show up making things worse all while trying to keep your feet warm. One thing I remember from years ago was building a fire in our wood burning stove in an effort to heat up the house. It was a cast iron stove and with a supply of logs to burn it needed to be cleaned out on a regular basis. Despite the maintenance, just experiencing the look and smell of it all gave me the feeling of living in a country cottage.

Sitting there watching the fire while reading a book, sipping a favorite drink, or warming your feet. When people came over we all congregated around the fireplace. It’s human nature, the flames and warmth draws us in and calms us down. The look and feel of a wood burning stove in the home is just something special. Let’s take a look at some amazing hearth and mantle designs! |
Wood Burning Stove Fireplace Ideas
A Fireplace With Extra Room

Accent Lighting Concept
Accent or mood lighting in the fireplace really adds some atmosphere to any room. Either under the mantle or in front you could set the mood any time of the year! Consider the extra room around the stove. Fill it with stacks of wood or perhaps on one side the family dog can setup their bed to stay warm at night. This open concept looks clean, spacious and notice how stockings can be easily hung during Christmas. Don’t forget, you can warm a pot on the stove top too!
![]() Wide Open Concept | The wider the fireplace the more room there is to store equipment and decorate. This wide open style concept has wood logs nearby but still has room for a few decor items. Using your space wisely can keep you organized and your living space clutter free. Sometimes such a large space is not needed and a smaller concept can still give you that old cottage look. Higher placement of the wood stove can also be useful in not having to bend over as much. Hip high heat might be better. |

A Double-Sided Fireplace
![]() Double-Sided Concept | If you want to be efficient then try the double-sided wood burning fireplace concept. Heat multiple rooms with a central point of heat. The air flow around the enclosed flames allow the warmth to stretch into both areas. Still considered a fireplace because of the dual hearth and mantle included in this design. A great match-up with the kitchen if utilizing the stove top for heating liquids or cooking foods! |
The Cozy Standalone Fireplace
![]() Cozy Standalone Concept | Another great option is the standalone fireplace concept. Place a wood burning stove with stunning exterior designs and you’ll have a great focal piece for any room. If mantels are not your thing then the standalone can still give you that cottage look and feel even with the required protective backdrop. Turn the lights off, put your feet up, and cozy up to this one. |
The Corner Fireplace
![]() Corner Fireplace Concept | Just want heat in the room and not so much a grand fireplace, then tuck that wood burning stove over in the corner! The corner concept occupies that unused space, heating the room while still looking rustic! A split mantle construction offers different decor options too. Good choice if the entertainment center or big screen television is the focal point in the room. Simpler to build, easier to change your mind! |
